Melissa D. Brown

Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audits

Melissa D. Brown was appointed Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audits and to the Senior Executive Service in July 2011. Ms. Brown is part of the management team responsible for overseeing the Office of Audits, which conducts audits and special reviews of programs administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the largest of which are the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, the Civil Service Retirement System, and the Federal Employees Retirement System.

Ms. Brown began her Federal career with the Office of the Inspector General in July 1990, working primarily as an auditor in the Community-Rated Audits Group, gaining extensive experience in conducting audits of community-rated health plans. In addition, Ms. Brown worked in the Information Systems Audit Group on the Y2K conversion project which received a citation from former Vice President Al Gore.

From November 2002 to July 2011, Ms. Brown served as a group chief of both the Community- Rated Audits Group and the Experience-Rated Audits Group. Ms. Brown also served as the Acting Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Management from March 2009 through March 2010.

She graduated from Frostburg State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Ms. Brown is also a Certified Public Accountant.
